COMBO!

Greetings, fellow true believers! Another week, another blog post.

First things first. As you all know by now, I am uploading all my novels to Smashwords and Lulu.com in preparation for breaking with Amazon entirely. Robots and Vampires: A Cyborg’s Odyssey is already up on Smashwords, and I will have both The Standard Tech Case Files: The Black Coats and The Dead and the Damned up by the end of this week. All three will be on Lulu.com by the end of the month.

Beginning in February, I will go back to writing my fanfiction and the next novel in the Standard Tech Case Files series. Also starting in February, I will have new rewards for my patrons on Patreon, so be sure to check those out! More details later.

Today, though, I want to talk about something else for a minute. Specifically, I want to talk about Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. Join me under the cut!

Update!

Another week, another update.

  • First, the research is not done, but done enough I can start crafting the skeletons of my stories
    • Why am I doing this, you ask? Because when I looked over my previous chapters, there were redundant arcs, mis-characterization and worse. A lot of it will have to be re-written.
  • On that note, the bare skeletons of the stories (as defined by The Novel Factory, anyway) are done.
  • Which means I can move on to the equivalent for my characters! Yay! I want to have them all finished by the end of this week, ‘cept Pokémon. That one will take a little longer because it has way more characters.
  • On that note, you should start to see some of my WorldAnvil stuff come online and become public this month, too. I will keep you all updated.

Robots and Vampires (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NDLMDT4): Two hundred years in the future, a young cyborg stops the richest boy in town from killing a gynoid. Now he must flee from the only home he’s ever known to Fort City, base of the mysterious Standard Technologies, Inc. Can he trust them?

The Standard Tech Case Files-The Black Coats (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VTWMR7W): When there’s a corpse on the street, somebody has to answer for that. When the body in question is the squire of a prominent vampire, the call for blood only gets louder. Follow Joey Bianco and his squire Jen Ryan as they hunt down a killer and try to keep the peace between vampires and humans.

The Standard Tech Case Files-The Dead and The Damned (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MRSBC7I): Tensions between humanity and vampires are heating up. A vampire store has been ransacked. Protestors are being arrested without trial. Can Joey Bianco and Jen Ryan find a peaceful solution? Or will the streets of Fort City run red with blood?

Tumblr, Tumblr Why Have You Forsaken… Well, Not Me. But A Lot Of Other People

Ah, Tumblr. That wonderful free website where people argue, post fake facts and, most importantly, create fan content. A ton of fan content.

Not anymore.

In case anybody’s missed it, Tumblr has finally decided to do something about the myriad pornbots infesting the site. And by ‘something,’ I mean the worst possible solution possible.

They’ve decided, in their infinite wisdom, to ban all porn.

Sounds great, right? No more porn means people are free to connect with each other like real human beings and share their content without being harassed by skeevy people on the ‘net, right?

Wrong.

First off, here’s some testimony from someone who will be directly affected by the changes: https://medium.com/@vexashley/porn-on-tumblr-a-eulogy-love-letter-6d45e70fefff

Secondly, a lot of fan content is, you know, rather explicit.

Third, and most importantly, the Tumblr staff are incompetent. Fat, drunk and stupid is a good way to describe them.

See, here’s the thing. They’ve ignored the pornbots, the Nazi and white supremacist blogs, and the general harassment endemic to their website for years and have done nothing about it. There are no moderators on Tumblr, hate speech gets ignored and everything related to content moderation is handled by bots.

Yes, bots. Not people, who can judge, analyze and discern, but algorithms. Algorithms that not only cannot discern between porn and art (which is a distinction to fine for humans, never mind a machine), but frequently mislabel and block stuff that has nothing to do with porn.

Stuff like the chronic pain tag, for instance.

So, I’m not sure what I’m going to do. For now, I’m still on Tumblr. I will, however, be spending more time on and updating this blog more frequently. This time I mean it.

I’m also on Twitter (@falconlord5) and now on World Anvil! Nothing’s up and ready yet, but I will keep you posted.

Stay tuned for next week, when I will reveal my plan for the New Year.

I’m Not Dead. My Respect For Humanity, On The Other Hand…

It’s been a long summer. Ontario’s burning, Greece is burning, Calgary just had it’s hottest day… ever, apparently. And once again, we’re covered in smoke.

There’s been two, count ’em two, shooting’s in the eastern half of my country. Once in Toronto, and another in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

On the fandom side, we’ve got the evolving saga of James Gunn vs. Disney vs. right-wing nutcake Mike whatever the fuck. Speaking personally, if every one of them died I’d sleep better at night.

Before that was the Batcat wedding, which I still don’t want to talk about, and then the casting of gentile Ruby Rose as the explicitly, devoutly Jewish Kate Kane aka Batwoman. And a huge chunk of fans revealing themselves to be anti-Semites. Great.

I feel like I missed something… oh yeah! How about all those racists who harassed Anna Diop? Doesn’t that just fill you with love for humanity? No? Good.

It’s frigging hard to be a fan these days. Hell, it’s hard just to be human these days. But, like the title says, I ain’t dead. I’m still writing, and I expect the next chapter of Uncanny to be up in a week or so.

Assuming Donald Trump doesn’t kill us all first.

Whoohoo!

All right! The Uncanny X-Men has been fully transferred into yWriter.

What does that mean for you?

Well, it means that regular updates for the Uncanny X-Men are coming back! Should be a new chapter in the next week or so.

It also means that I can get on with the other fics and you should start seeing regular updates for those again shortly.

Almost Done!

Well, sort of. I’ve almost finished transferring all my character notes, outlines and text for The Uncanny X-Men into yWriter and once I’m done that I should be able to move back to regular updates for that series. It’ll help with the other series too, cause I’ll be able to copy a lot of those notes between series.

But it’s still gonna be a while before regular updates happen for them. Sorry.

A Nap! My Kingdom For A Nap!

Still moving all my fiction over to yWriter. It’s been slow going, mostly ’cause I’m getting like, zero sleep at the moment.

I’ll keep you guys posted.

Moving Over To A New Word Processor

Traditionally, I use Microsoft Word for writing my fiction. And don’t get me wrong: I love Word, I really do.

But it’s not designed for writing fiction.

So I’m in the process of switching all my fic over to a word process that is designed for writing, you know, fiction.

This should help in making my stories more consistent, better written and oh yeah, come out faster.

I’ll keep you guys posted.
