Happy Labour Day Weekend!

Hello all you happy people! Josh Stoodley here with yet another blog post!

This week is more of a housekeeping post than anything. I want to update you on my current plans, how some of my plans have fallen through and just generally what’s going on with me.

So, first off, I’ve done another social media purge. I’m off both Reddit and Instagram. I left Instagram because, let’s face it, Facebook (no, I’m not calling them Meta; that’s a stupid name) is really shady. I left Reddit for much the same reason I left Twitter: I just kept getting in stupid, pointless fights. I’m not sure if it’s me, other people, or just the nature of social media but hey! There’s an easy solution: don’t go on social media!

So the only places you can find me are here, my Patreon, Ko-fi , ArchiveofOurOwn and Tumblr. Tumblr is pretty much a deadspace at the moment; the only thing I’m posting there are my DCAU liveblogs.

Which I’m starting back up this week! Catch me today as we dig into the next episode of Static Shock!

On to fanfiction… followers of this blog and me on AO3 will notice that I still haven’t uploaded the next chapter of Batman. That’s because the chapter has gotten away from me somewhat; it’s much longer and more ungainly then I’d initially planned. So I’m going to have to split into two chapters, which is annoying because it disrupts my long term plans for both Batman and other series.

Speaking of which, this month will all be dedicated to outlining the remainder of Superman, Wonder Woman, Fantastic Four and No Blood for Business. That means I should be posting new chapters for all four of those by October; Brockhold will take a little longer but hopefully I will be posting it by November. Either way, I still plan to release both Brockhold and No Blood for Business in 2023. That is, of course, assuming Putin and his warmongering morons don’t nuke us all to hell and back. War is for idiots, people, don’t do it.

Next up are further updates for this blog. Next week we will be continuing the Fandom Heresies with our conclusions on why Batman should be unarmoured. The week after that, we will finally get to the long-promised post on Legends of Infernia, what my intentions are with it and how I intend to go about it. The week after that, I plan on doing some speculative analysis of Baldur’s Gate 3.

Which brings me to video games in general. Video games are much more work than novels or fanfiction, and they take much longer than either. I have finished the outline for LoI, and I hope to finish the script by November. But I don’t expect serious work on the game to start until 2023. Expect the game to only be on the Nintendo Switch!

That’s it for this week, guys. I’ll see you next time!

Writing Philosophies

Greetings my fellow random response generators! It is I, Josh Stoodley, here to regale you with more opinions that you didn’t ask for!

Except today isn’t about opinions. It’s about the three different philosophical underpinnings of my upcoming commercial works: No Blood for Business, Brockhold, and Legends of Infernia. As all three have quite different inspirations (Film noir and hardboiled detective fiction for No Blood, Redwall for Brockhold and the Tales of series for Infernia), you’d expect all three to have quite different philosophies underpinning them!

And you’d be right, of course.

The reason I want to discuss, to lay out the different philosophies underpinning these works, is because I know people. I know they will take my work and twist it to their political and philosophical ends, that they will seek meaning where there is none, and invent out of whole cloth interpretations of characters and scenes that is completely at odds with what really happened.

I intend to combat this kind of bad faith analysis directly in the text itself, of course. But there is no way I will be totally successful; a quick perusal of Tumblr will be enough to disabuse you of that notion. So I wanted to create this post. An easily accessible resource for future analysts and fans who are concerned with the truth, not whatever their pet political theory is.

So if you want to know why I wrote these projects the way I did, join me under the cut!

And remember, if you enjoy these posts you can support me on Patreon or buy me a hot chocolate.

Toothaches And Other Shenanigans

Hi guys! I know I promised a post last week, but I have in fact been in crippling agony for the past week or so due to a cavity that I should have taken care of years ago, but didn’t.

Whoops.

But you don’t want to know about my pain, you want to know about my writing.

And, admittedly, I haven’t gotten a lot done this month. Between the American election and my toothache, I’ve been drained to the max.

So here’s a quick update.

The Standard Tech Case Files: No Blood For Business

Work on the first chapter continues apace. Originally, I had planned to have the first chapter and second chapter finished for this month, but that’s not going to happen.

A preview for the first chapter can be seen on my Patreon. Link here: https://www.patreon.com/joshstoodley

Brockhold

Introducing my newest series, Brockhold! Inspired by the Redwall series by the late (and deeply lamented) Brian Jacques, it takes place in a pseudo-England inhabited by woodland creatures.

The main character is Redfur (name open to revision) a weasel commoner recently promoted to High Constable of Brockhold. He and his best friend, Hob Short-tail, must contend with the damage done to the castle’s guard by the previous High Constable, the lord of Brockhold’s son.

That’s not all the two have to contend with, though. Lord Morchyn of Brockhold intends to marry his son off to Countess Johanna, the young and newly ascended lady of another hold. In Countess Johanna’s retinue is the Lady Ailenor Laflamme, a weasel who’s as hard-bitten and cynical as Redfur himself is.

While the two retainers clash over what is best for their lords, other victims of the previous war arise, with plans of their own…

As always, preview chapters will be posted on Patreon.

Fanfiction

This has been a slow year for updates to my fanfic, and I apologize for that.

However, more is coming!

Wonder Woman

The next chapter is going to undergo a complete re-write; currently it’s all exposition and bad exposition at that.

So that may not come out this year.

That’s it for this time, I’ll see you guys again soon!

A Wild Generation Has Appeared!

Goooooood morning internet!

Over this cold yet? I sure am. And it’s not quite done with us yet. Another week to go.

Speaking of cold, I’m going to be frank: I didn’t get much done in February due to the cold. I was shut down, so to speak.

So everything on my to-do list from the last time I spoke to you? Yeah, that’s been pushed back a month. I’m still writing, though, and I will have new chapters up and ready soon! Promise.

In the meantime, though, I want to talk about Pokémon: Sword and Shield.

Join me under the cut!

COMBO!

Greetings, fellow true believers! Another week, another blog post.

First things first. As you all know by now, I am uploading all my novels to Smashwords and Lulu.com in preparation for breaking with Amazon entirely. Robots and Vampires: A Cyborg’s Odyssey is already up on Smashwords, and I will have both The Standard Tech Case Files: The Black Coats and The Dead and the Damned up by the end of this week. All three will be on Lulu.com by the end of the month.

Beginning in February, I will go back to writing my fanfiction and the next novel in the Standard Tech Case Files series. Also starting in February, I will have new rewards for my patrons on Patreon, so be sure to check those out! More details later.

Today, though, I want to talk about something else for a minute. Specifically, I want to talk about Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order. Join me under the cut!

Update!

Another week, another update.

  • First, the research is not done, but done enough I can start crafting the skeletons of my stories
    • Why am I doing this, you ask? Because when I looked over my previous chapters, there were redundant arcs, mis-characterization and worse. A lot of it will have to be re-written.
  • On that note, the bare skeletons of the stories (as defined by The Novel Factory, anyway) are done.
  • Which means I can move on to the equivalent for my characters! Yay! I want to have them all finished by the end of this week, ‘cept Pokémon. That one will take a little longer because it has way more characters.
  • On that note, you should start to see some of my WorldAnvil stuff come online and become public this month, too. I will keep you all updated.

If you enjoyed this update, please support me on Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/joshstoodley) or by my original fiction on Amazon. Or buy me a coffee (http://ko-fi.com/falconlord)
